I have owned a Supernova, but currently have the Access Virus A (2.8) and Nord Lead Rack 2. The Virus A sits well in the mix, though its not as loud as the Nord, and its best to program patch volume based on the filter - since it can rip your speakers a new a-hole.

The Virus is a tweakfest, there are so many possibilities as far texturally - and the f/x section is more complex than most budget f/x units (like the $199-249 models) with a decent sound.

Let me say this... I was wanting something that could do those lush wide spilling (see Pob) pads that blow up dance floors, and this does it.

I am not one to harp on and on about how other synths compare sonically, because we all have different tastes... if I had gotten the Virus instead of the Supernova, I wouldnt have spent so much money looking for my sound. I would buy the SN again, but only the SN2, with the FM injection that synth needs for a little fiber.

The manual sucks though. I had a hard time connecting the screenshots with the buttons or functions needed to reach them. But after a few nights of messing around, my first virus patch is unique and right in the spiller sound.

Ranking is based on current price and other available synths. I got mine for $425. Yes. Really. Its still a 5 of 5.

I own a great deal of analog keyboards moogs/arp/tb303's etc andnew va's nords jp8000's etc, but i have to admit this instrument is one of the most impressive instruments i have owned since a roland jupiter8,the access virus produces rauncy bass lines,(HARD AND I MEAN HARD(unison leads,massive etheral pads,banging tr808/909 impressions you name it this synth can produce it and as for the filter it sounds better than some of my analog keyboards,excellent job access by far one of the most realistic analog emulations to date worth every penny.

Virus what can i say. This is a state of art . Im a producer who works al the time in the studio. When i bougt the virus and i lookt to all the thing it can do, i was thinking men what a machine. The virus has a special sound,you can hear it in a song. The basssounds are also very good and have a own dynamik. also the string (pads) are very good. and the oscilators and filters are SWEET.

The virus sounds better that other analogue modelling synths. It has a crispness to its sounds that is almust uncanny. But it is true, you can slightly tell that it it digital. The features on it surpass many other synths in its league. Id say pick one up as fast as you can. Nice effects too
