I used to own the regular Proteus 2 and then I got the Proteus 2XR. Its great to have all those extra sounds. And these are some wonderful orchestral flavors. Emu does it again. A classic!

One of the greatest orchestral romplers ever. The muted trumpets are wonderful and sound like the Miles Davis recording done produced by Marcus Miller but the rest of the brass is just so-so. The unit really shines on strings and woodwinds. Check out 'Tremulus' for awesome string tension. Has a few weirdo analogish patches too. This is about as rare and classic as a rompler can be. Expect to pay $400 for the Proteus2 and more for the XR version. Don't expect help from Emu's tech support though. They're notoriously horrible (deservedly IMO) at customer service.
