Well, as a piano player I find it very easy to pick up a gutiar and figure out a chord, because it's set up exactly the same way as a piano, just with strings and different to physically play. Assuming you know all of the notes on the gutiar, take the E string for example. You know open is E, then the first fret is F, then F#, G, G#, A etc. etc., the piano is set up the same way. The black keys are the sharps and flats, and the notes in a chord are the same. The E chord has the notes E, G# and B both on gutiar and on piano. It's played differently because you're probably playing the chord with more than three strings, but the concept is the same. I don't know if this helps much, or if it even makes much sense coming from gutiar to piano, because I figured it out vice versa. And also, yes reading music is the same. You just have to know all of the notes, and you probably would want to learn your scales, also. There are a lot of youtube tutorials for that type of thing. Good luck to you.

The Equinox is--and will likely be--the most underrated, powerful synth of the 20th century. Unfortunately as technology "improves" everything and we are now in the 21st century, there are probably better boards available in the marketplace that do as much--or more--and are cheaper, lighter and more reliable. However for as little as $200USD you can find a used 61 note Equinox on Ebay and have the most powerful, adaptable keyboard at that price point of any you could find. I've owned 10-12 Equinoxes over the past few years (having sold my last one recently) and after investigating my replacement options (and purchasing a highly-touted Kurzweil PC361 brand new), I can tell you that I'd rather have owned 5 used Equinoxes for the price of the Kurzweil. GeneralMusic was way ahead of its time with the Equinox. If you don't have a sound already that you like in that board (comes with 1000 factory presets), you have the capability of bending, shaping, coloring and basically creating ANY sound on the Equinox.

Well, I own this tank now for almost 1 year, and I must say its an amazing machine. I think the weight an quality seem to fit LOL. Yes, it has over 30 Kg ( I have the 88 Pro). I only use it from time to time, to play around a little. I owned several Workstations and synths befor, like a Roland VA7, Wladorf Q, JP8000, CS6.... just to name some. I think this Workstation has its benefits and loss compared on each of the named other ones. But I will never sell it. As more you play around with it, as more you will love it. Problems with the OS? No way! I have not used the sequencer yet, so maybe bugs are there, but for sound editing, creation and so on there was no bug so far. Make sure you use the latest OS from the GEM site. In short: A VA7 from Roland is easier to handle, but rather weak in case of the keys and the case A CS6 is a pain to handle in Performance-Mode. Here the Equinox is much easier/intuitive (but slow in response) A Waldorf Q is a beast in its own sound. The sound has its "Waldorf"-Character and you hear it in many productions. The equinox has also its own sound, but much more decent. The presets are sh... Create your own, and use a patcher to bring them into the presets! Once you figures out how to use and program the controllers you will be satisfied with the possibilities you have for realtime in good 99%

I have owned an Equinox 61 key for 5 years. I have just sold it. It was a great key board and workstation. If you knew what you were doing on this key board you could mimic the best out there. It out performed the Korg and Yamaha. I play in a weekend band and was using it in conjunction with an Alesis 6,2. The midi control and interfaced worked perfectly. I sold it because I have moved into piano and couldn't bare to see this Key Board go to waste. I will miss it.

Professional synth, although with some bugs. Accoustics are so so, but the rest is awsome! + sampler! I have 88 Fatar keys - really good stuff.
