For fellow treaders of uncharted waters who are still discovering this keyboard, Sylvain Keper's Neuron web site is now at sylvain.kepler.free.fr

And this keyboard is everything you've read about it and more. If you want to be a popular rock star, get a Roland. If you want to sail off the edge of the world to see what's there, get a Neuron. You should know what you are by now.

The Hartmann Neuron has instantly become a favorite synth of mine. It has a special cinematic quality that is very inspirational, that is similiar in some way to the Fairlight /Synclavier. It is not perfect but what is? But if you looking to do ambient, film, sound textures/design or just something off the beaten path it will definetly prove itself. It is expensive, but it's uniqueness makes it a wise investment IMO. It comes with 300 different resynthesis models and when you get bored with those you can load your own into there modelmaker softare then into the Neuron through USB/FTP. The filters and effects are good. Here our a few important links for info and sounds: Neuron FAQ http://www.hartmann-music.com/home/us/faq/neuron_faq.pdf Small Neuron video from Moogulator http://www.sequencer.de/movie/hartmann.mov Sylvains Kepler's great Neuron wesite http://sylvain.kepler.free.fr/ Sound samples: http://www.aliens-project.de/t_200302_neuron.html

NEURON is the best synth ever I came across. Sitting among my other synths and even beside my kyma system, NEURON is the first machine I switch on today when I need a long and relaxing sonic journey... Most of my ideas can be quickly set and I always discrover new things to do with it. Even if allmost of the parameters and sections are named the same as we used to encounter on other machines, even if they look simple (and somwhat primitive) these parameters get a new definition by using the Neuron and shouldn't be considered as we use to. Efficiency resides in Simplicity. NEURON is a new race of instrument, this is not mutting all the sections like slicer and other sliver units that you will be able to make a good opinion out of it like some detractors did. It would be doing a similar mistake as judging a person mutting some of his virtues...You have to switch all the units on, neglecting polyphony matters, because NEURON sounds have so much presence that polyphony comes really as a secondary matter. For more about the Neuron, visit my website :

In the "studio" section > NEURON page, I posted PDF files including a MIDI CC Map, a controllers Stocktaking, and a kind of Subjective Classification Table. I posted even on this page a "Butterly Wings Beats Model". I will also post in the near future some sound demos for those who would be intrested in hearing further about the Neuron ( I know some of the sound demos posted around on the net leave much to desire...)
