primarily a sequencer. not bad to compose on. definitly not "intuitive", in fact learning to use it is a major headache. some really good sounds can be coaxed out of it espicialy with the FX but getting this device to do what you want it to is like pulling teeth.

The X3 is a great entry-level synthesizer, but if you're going to get a PCM keyboard, get something newer. The drums are awful, the strings and pads above average, the organs and pianos below average, the guitar sounds are great, and everything else is about average. It can be made to sound good without much effort, but there's nothing extraordinary about it. The sequencer is pretty good, and if you want but can't afford a newer high-end workstation, this is probably what you want.

I've had my X3 for almost 7 years, and only use it as a midi controller. It does have some nice string and pad patches, but its piano and synth sounds suck big time. The drums are the average run-of-the mill sets.

I just bought an X3 and I must say that the german manual is as difficult as the english one must be. That's my conclusion after reading Glenn D. Bowden's email. But if someone feels lost: most korg synthesizers work with the same menue structure. And I learned by doing. But you always have to see that it already has beautiful and crazy sounds. And for the price you have to pay now, it's a cool instrument.
