Everyone complains about the membrane button pad dying, but I cannot relate to this, as mine works 100% all of the time. Furthermore, the lack of knobs is not an issue at all. The buttons are all dedicated to one function, which makes the lack of knobs a non-issue. The sound? FANTASTIC! The tightest, phattest bass sounds you will ever hear, will come from a Moog Source. Overall, it sounds very close to the Mini, but a little less gritty--more polished and punchy. Excellent lead sounds can be had as well--and that FILTER is classic.

when i first got this synth i was so happy i just fell in love with the look and of the fat moog bass and lead sounds. However things went down hill and instantly. As it looked great and the rotary knob was awesome,Looks can be deceiving as with any older electronics its whats in the inside that truely counts.HMmmmm.Anyway some of the sources membrane died so i was left with one osc attack and release didnt work and on the second osc attack and delay failed.so folks beware as replacing the membrane will be costly.buy a newer moog as the source as of now is 27 years old.and a little fatty or a newer minimoog is just a few, makes sense to me to buy new as it was nice for Robert Moog to leave the schemics behind.Bottom line you can pay to try to be cool,or you can wake up to reality,Right now my moog the source is a monument on my mantle.Peace Ya'll

Just got mine, the Source is the shitz... Super clean condition, phatty phat sounds, nice memory store, got to love the sounds that this beast produces, sure it is not a Mini, but it feels great and compliments the Little Phatty well. Paid 1K for it and worth every penny!!

Cory Cudney a professional user from Buffalo, NY writes:
Such a strange little fella, the Source. Damn that lack of knobs, but it continues to blow me away every time I touch those keys anyway. I sold my Mini to buy a Source and a Prophet 5. I never looked back. Since I play several analog synths on stage, it is difficult to make that quick mental switch from total control and a knob for everything I could possibly want to just one knob and a membrane of buttons to assign the duty. I think the Source is best when you can devote 100% attention and really get in the zone with it. That's when the magic happens. I use it strictly for bass now in my live show, and it is THE BEST I've ever heard for bass. Period. The Mini had more balls, with that third oscillator, but was also too muddy and out of control in comparison. The Source sounds exactly like the Mini, but somehow cleaner and punchier. It does not dominate the song, but rather fits in just right. Highly recommended. Take some time to create those patches you've dreamed of since '81. You can't possibly be disappointed! Use this bad boy as the gods of synth intended. Know it. Love it.

This is basically a minimoog that looks like battlestar galactica funk mothership.... and has the sound that you've been looking for and not finding anywhere else!!! Put this through some effects and you have the deepest, richest, organic textures you could possibly imagine. This is a musicians secret weapon! And the one knob is the ultimate knob of knobs... so nice, i wish everything had a knob like that. it feels like its got ball-bearings in it or something. You never take your hand off of it, and its very very fast to program. A totally nice synth! I have to give it a 5 out of 5 and will never never sell it. It gives the most mighty Dub Basses!
