If I had a choice to keep one instrument from my studio it would be the Fantom G. It is by far the all in one master keyboard of my studio. The screen is incredable and the sound is just beautiful (full, rich and warm). This keyboard is loaded with tons of great PCM sounds, cool controllers (pads, Ibeam, etc),sequencer and a really nice feeling keyboard. This one is a five star winner and a must have for any studio.

Have not been a Roland user since The early days, But always had a good experience with them. Last synth was the JD-800 which was amazing, but big ;)
After going through pretty much the whole line of Korg workstations and a couple from Yamaha, I was extremely impressed with the info and videos I researched on the Fantom G. Who could not want these features on a workstation.
Luckily, I am prone to actually play the instrument at the store before purchasing and good thing I did. Since when did Roland decide to bring back AM radio station sound? This thing sounds like you are playing through a tin can. Anyone else here agree? Play a Fantom X and hey... it's great, play the G and yuuuuuuuuuck. Have tried several stores and all are the same. When it comes to a workstation or synth, I don't care how much features are there... if the sound is bad, then the whole thing is bad. Sorry Roland, maybe you can concentrate more on the output of your next model, but this thing is beyond help.

Rather negative comment going on here, but so far I've been really happy with this synth. I bought it to replace my Korg Triton Extreme as a Mother Keyboard. It's integrated well to my Cubase and work flow is great. The on board sounds are fantastic in 'general, but it more compliments my expanded Roland XV-5080 if anything else. These two now complete my Roland end, and fill the gap which my Triton Extreme / Kurzweil / microKORG can't fill. Great display and having a mouse has been a godsend. Although the touchscreen of the Triton rocks too. I do actually recommend this synth, very good for ambient / electronica / pop productions, but probs not so good in the Piano section, stick to Yamaha. But then again, as far back as my 80's memory goes, each manufacturer has it's strengths. Yamaha = Acoustic / Korg = Electronica / Roland = Pads / Kurweil = VAST

I have the Motif XS6, the Korg M3 and a Fantom G7 I'm afraid for user-friendliness the G7 is the pits. Saving your work is a nightmare. You'd think for the price you'd get some drum patterns to work with other than Trance and Latin. Definitely wouldn't use one for live work other than just a synth although recording into Cubase is quite easy once you've got your set up right. Most of the preset voices are rubbish but at least you can edit them then save them. I liked the 'favourites' section where you can store and call up all your favourite sounds. A useful feature is the ability to connect a mouse - navigating is a breeze with this, why other manufacturers don't have this facility is beyond me - are you listening Korg and Yamaha? The large screen is great - it has to be big because of all the info that's on it. Summarising - well it's ok, not as good as the Motif XS or the M3 in some respects but a decent buy if you don't mind spending time setting up your own voices from the presets.
