finally got my Microwave XT after a few months of waiting. Since I've had friends that have owned the XTk version I knew how powerful and characterful this machine is.

Amongst the VA-type current crop, i consider this and the Nord the best, with contrasting characters that complement one another well. The XT has a complex, very clear and bright sound akin to a PPG and somewhat like a Prophet, very professional and high quality sounds that cut through a mix. The Nord has the best old-analog type warmth, so if you marry to two you've got the best approximations of the old school brought into the present..

This synth is quite a monster in the best sense of the word. I was not expecting such a powerful synth due its vintage, but I am very pleased to be wrong. The ability to design sounds in realtime and make very drastic waveform changes is unlike the digital synths I have used with hidden cryptic menus. The XT gives you nearly everything at a knobs spin. It can squeal and alias like an 8 bit data error or phase into very complex and expansive pads. It's now the center of my setup and the only hardware synth I think I will be keeping for sound sourcing. I hope and wish Waldorf makes it through their business problems to make more of these forward looking tools.

What a great and unique synth. Very hands on which is great for live performance. Fabulous for experimental and ambient music. Unusual and evolving pads and bizarre stabs are a breeze on this synth.

One of the best synth every made? Yes! Is not analog, is only a good digital with good features and good sound, many realtime control and very very flexible sound, this machine can make any sound you have in your mind, ok, can't make decent acustic sound (is not a proteus or motif!), but for all synth sound type is one of the best choice. This machine can't make a realistic analog sound as a supenova II or virus C, but for the real analog sound is better a real analog, if you wont a good digital without limits, buy one XT!!!
