Studio Electronics Boomstars

Stepping out of the protection of a 19” rack the Boomstar sits nice and chunkily on your desktop. There are 6 different versions to choose from each with a different flavour filter;

Moog 24dB Ladder, SE80 Yamaha CS80, 700 MiniKORG, 4075 ARP 2600, SEM Oberheim 12dB and the 3003 Roland TB303.

The basic architecture of each of the synths is exactly the same, the only external difference is the filter.

We were mightily impressed when we had these in the office to play with, they sound absolutely massive and also gave us our first complaint from the neighbours as they were actually shaking the room so much.

Studio Electronics have been making discrete analogue electronics since 1985 so you would expect a level of quality and the Boomstars do not disappoint, and it doesn’t -  the sound of the oscillators and filters are impressive.

The only issue is that they may not be considered a full-on semi-modular. as they only have jack points for; Pitch CV in, Gate in, VCF FM in, VCA AM in, OSC out and Ext in, but on the plus side, they sound fantastic.
