I would suggest the expanded Nord Lead 1 to anyone looking for a good gigging lead synth. The differences between the expanded 1 and the 2 are minimal and mean a price difference in the range of $250-$400 USD. Of course a 3 would be optimal, but.... And then of course there's the Electro......

NORD LEAD 1 - 2 outs - 12 voices

NORD LEAD 2 - 4 outs - 16 voices - new Sine waveform (close to triangle...) - new ring modulator button - new distortion button - LFO 1 section has 2 more waveform choices / 1 more destination

my advice : Nord Lead 2 is cool but still expansive, and there's NO real difference with the Nord Lead 1 (difference occurs with NL3...).

buy a Nord lead 1 for cheap. i own this synth since a few months and i love it. so intuitive... amazing sounds... wonderful technology.

TRICK : want it to sound "somewhat" analog ? (i mean old rusty synth) use the Random generator on LFO 1, and apply it to Osc 1+2. Turn the Random rate to 3 o'clock, and turn amount button just a little bit (not much at all). you'll get a nice dirty sound...

I never saw one of these in real life before, but I just found one over the weekend and got it second hand for 6 bills. I wish I had more time to use it. This thing blows away anything Ive heard before. It was fairly easy to learn the controls, but the sounds you can create on this thing are AMAZING...from farts to making the thing talk.....to crickets and everything in between, Now I know why Dr. Dre chose this to use in his 2001 album.

I have had the Nordlead 1 for quite some time and it does sound good and pure....But it is IMPOSSIBLE to make 'beautiful' electronic sounds with it like you can on a JP8000/Nova... So i sold it because it was too 'agressive'for me!Sorry..
