I use the AWE64 (gold) on one of my old PCs and i think it's a great card but only if you have the 4mb gold version. the main reason i choose this card over the newer soundblasters is mainly because i have no PCI slots available on my motherboard (which is what all new sound cards use) and it works just as good except for the higher CPU usage (because its an ISA card) i reccomend it if you have an older PC.

I use the AWE64 as a sampler with the Vienna software (bundled) and i think it´s good. The quality depends a lot upon the samples. There are a huge amount of samples at internet. I´ve got some moog and mellotron samples and they are great. Don´t bother if the card has less than 2Meg ! As with all samplers the sound quality depends a lot on memory. Short cycle waveforms sound very dull and dry. With a couple of Megs the sounds come alive. I got my AWE64 for 30$. It´s easy to edit the samples to, so for me it works fine...

This card is a scam!!! Don't even think to buy it. Creative Lab are crooks. Exactly one year, they put on the market the sblive! at the exact same price I've paid for my AWE64GOLD. I know that hardware evolve, but not like this i guess. And what about the memory module for upgrading the Awe64gold? They are still at 199$ for the 24 meg expansion. Thieves!!! At the same price I can get a sblive platinium or preferably an another great soundcard from an another company and I have the same sampler capacity because of the new RAM allocation. The original drivers doesn't permit me to use a normal SM57 mic. No your "AWE64GOLD" mic input is optimized for the 10$ cheap mike included in the package deal with stupids games. At least I got a midi cable with it!!! The sound quality is medium even with the super gold connector thing. The soundfont playback is much better with the sblive!. To make it short, don't buy this card if you are to do music...

This card is not ment for the musicians: the MIDI interface has got serious timing problems. It had trouble with unclocked MIDI data. You'll experience a lot of annoying delays if you're working with a masterkeyboard. The only positive thing about this card is that it is not noisy. I bought a TerraTec EWS64XL, this card is much, much, much better.

DO NOT BUY THIS CARD ON THE 2ND HAND MARKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
