Elektron Tease For Imminent New Instrument

Sounds like it could be a synth   06-Nov-12

Elektron's latest snippet of information comes in the form of a flexi-disc played on a portable record player - a stylish touch.

We still dont know what it is yet, but the picture on the Flexi-disc does look like something of a simillar shape to the Octatrack - their sample sequencer system.

One thing I do know is that Elektron's quirky synthesis system - which in the past has comprised of discrete synthesis engines for their MachineDrum and MonoMachine units is capable of some unique sounds.

The release is imminent, but all that it says in the text accompanying the video is:

New product from Elektron, Q4 2012.

We'll just have to wait and see. Are you excited?

Yawn !

Get a Yamaha QY10, it's got more functionality (and is easier to use) than this over hyped early nineties technology dressed up.

You're recommending the QY10 over an analog based synth? 0_o At least we know to ignore your future advice.

I was comparing Elektron's other 'backwards drum machine' devices to a QY10 (a quite valid comparison) - where they are selling essentially dressed-up early 90's groove box technology with a few new samples; the type of dated device from the early digital era which the music world has otherwise rejected at this stage.

How they get away with selling 20 year out of date drum machine technology with an LCD display of that era, and utterly outmoded editing and interface capabilities, for well over £1000 beggars belief. There is that backwards name that clearly defines it in a whole new domain or even 'paradigm' - and I suppose they should be congratulated for successfully managing to charge such outrageous prices.

Well, I like what I'm hearing. I liked the SidStation but haven't been into a lot of their newer stuff...
