The Man from Digi - he say YES      12/06/01
Update: Digidesign has successfully test driven the 2 Slot CardBus PCI Expansion System and has approved and officially supports this professional digital audio workstation. Running Pro Tools|24MIX or Digi 001 PowerBook users can use the same PCI cards that are available for desktop Macs. With the CardBus PCI Expansion System, you can add 2 PCI slots to any PowerBook G4. Professionals now have the freedom to attach practically anything to their portable computer, including audio cards, video cards and SCSI cards. The 2 slot chassis is available in two models, one with an on-board SCSI controller or one without, your choice. The 2 Slot CardBus Expansion System is portable, compact and weighs 5.3 pounds. The following is Digidesign test results; your results may vary: Digi 001 running Pro Tools LE 5.1 software supports up to 24 tracks of record and playback. Track count is based on tests using 24-bit/48kHz audio with 300ms edits across all tracks. Pro Tools|24 MIX system running Pro Tools 5.1 software supports up to 30 tracks of record and playback. Track count is based on tests using 24-bit/48kHz audio with 300ms edits across all tracks. Track count will increase as bit/sample rates and edit density are decreased. All the testing done to achieve maximum track count with the MAGMA 2 Slot CardBus chassis were performed with the ATTO ExpressPCI UL2S SCSI HBA installed. It is therefore recommended that this SCSI card and two Digidesign Approved SCSI hard drives be used to achieve maximum disk performance. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
