We saw the synth that has generated a lot of interest since their cheeky teaser campaign started. We hot-footed it over to their stand as soon as the show opened only to find them still tweaking - y'see this is a work in progress beast. Though the hardware is pretty much complete the software is still undergoing final tweaking by the German based company.
The Neuron boasts an entirely new method of synthesis known as 'Neuronal Synthesis'. The sound is generated by 2 'resynators' whihc model the sounds stored on the Neuron's internal HD - yes that's right under the hood there's 10gb HD. The synthesis can be applied to various samples and wave-forms.
The main focus of this instrument is the interface featuring unusual roller controllers and joysticks - according to Alex Hartmann, the guy behind such classics as the Waldorf Wave and the Andromeda A6 tweak-fests.
We did hear the sound of the Neuron though we weren't permitted to record to our trusty Sonic DAT, we were promised audio swiftly when the Neuron returns to the Hartmann labs.
Expected to start shipping in the the Spring, the Neuron is rather dissapointingly appears to destined to be the play-thing of the fabulously wealthy - with it's hefty $5,000 price tag. We shall bring you more news and sounds as they come.
