The S90 inherits many features from the popular S80, and comes equipped with the Balanced Hammer action and same sounds as the Motif 8 Music Production Synthesizer. “It’s perfect for those people who want all the Motif-quality sounds in a portable 88-note weighted package, but don’t require sampling or workstation functions.” States Athan Billias, marketing manager, Digital Musical Instruments. In addition to the Motif sound collection, the S90 also features full 64-note polyphony, plus a new three-velocity S700 (Yamaha’s $250k flagship grand) grand piano sample. A bundled application CD-ROM contains an Audio/MIDI Sequencer with Auto Arranging feature (SQ01 for Windows), Voice Editors for Windows/Mac, and Card Filer software. “The S90 continues in the tradition of the award-winning S80, and also builds on the legacy of the Motif,” notes Avery Burdette, Product Manager, Digital Musical Instruments. “The new three-layer S700 piano samples perfectly compliment the two other stereo grands from the Motif, and make the S90’s selection of pianos the best and most versatile of any synthesizer on the market.” Scheduled for September delivery, the unit carries an MSRP of $2,350.
