Discrete Drums was showing their new Series Two drum library, which contains 33 songs, 743 drum segments, and 133 percusion loops. As an owner of the Discrete Drums Series One library, I was very curious to check out their new offering. The Series Two PRO set consists of 11 CD-ROM's filled with 24 bit drum and percussion tracks in an 8 track multitrack format, 4 CD-ROM's of 16 bit stereo WAV loop files, 1 CD-ROM containing individual drum and percussion samples in 24 bit WAV format, and 2 audio CD's containing all drum and percussion tracks for easy auditioning. The discs are shipped in a handy wood storage case. From where I was standing, the drum tracks sounded quite authentic and had a great vibe. The advantage of the Discrete Drums approach is that the user can mix up to 16 tracks individually, processing them however he or she wishes. One common problem with loops is that when you get the level for the kick right, for example, then the snare is too soft (or too loud). The Discrete Drums multitrack format eliminates that problem. I believe this product may have been released before NAMM, but is certainly worthy of a mention here. It's also a library worthy of your consideration if you are looking for multitrack format grooves in Rock, Pop, Alternative, R&B, Hip Hop, Funk, and Country crossover styles. Libraries coming soon from Discrete Drums include: Series One for ACID, Erik Darken Series Two Percussion, Erik Darken One Big World Percussion, and Discrete Drums Series Three. List price for the Series Two PRO set is $549, with introductory pricing at $399. Albert
