Kyma has is one of those systems that has achevied legendary status due to it's use by such industry luminaries as Brian Eno and BT. Now Symbolic Sounbd annouce Kyma X, the next major release of their advanced sound design environment, Now shipping. Kyma X delivers more than 70 features including an elegant new look, a 432 page book of never-before-documented Kyma secrets, a new editor where users can create their own Tools and add them to the Tools menu, and substantial changes in the underlying structure that make it possible for Kyma to run under Mac OS X and Windows XP and 2000 (while maintaining compatibility with OS 9, Win ME and Win 98). "Kyma X was like a major remodelling or renovation project," said Symbolic Sound president Carla Scaletti. "We stripped the software down to the rafters so we could make major structural changes and improvements--bring it 'up to code' so we could run under OS X and Windows XP. But once that was done we couldn't resist doing a bit of interior designing too: new icons, new fonts, new window elements--the first thing everyone comments on when they start up Kyma X is how great it looks, and the second thing they notice is how fast it runs." A few highlights from the list of new features and enhancements include:
  • Newly designed, zoomable icons that are as meaningful as they are beautiful
  • Streamlined operations to improve the ease of use and reduce or eliminate the amount of typing required
  • A new book, Kyma X Revealed!, full of never-before-documented Kyma secrets to guide users through every aspect of the software through entertaining hands-on examples.
  • A drag-and-drop Expressions Library plus autocompletion, making it easy to create complex controls for any sound parameter
  • Enhancements to the spectral analysis and synchronization tools that deliver even more effective and natural-sounding audio morphs
  • Sound caching and partial-compilation to speed development in the Timeline
