The Hartmann Neuron was one of the big stories of the 2002 NAMM show (details here). Well it's been around for a while and we heard stories good (great sounds) and bad (big price) - but you can't deny it has brought a new type of synthesis into the hardware arena and it does look cool. So, just over 2 years after its launch it's having an update to version 1.5.

This update allows the use of the mastering effects in a surround 5.1 mode. It broadens the range of parameters for delay and reverb to match these new capabilities. This with some updates to the OS and interface make up the update. The Hartmann team are releasing a DVD at the show and maybe we'll get permission to stream some content on to the web. It contains in-depth information about neural synthesis and the Neuron as an instrument. All sound-generating components are explained in detail. It also has interviews with famous users of the synth as well as the development team. We'll update this story as the show progresses. For further details of the Neuron check out the Hartmann web site - http://hartmann-music.com/home/us/news/.
