The 01V started life as Yamaha's entry-level digital console, with all the features one would hope for but in an affordable package. The 01V96, released at the beginning of this year (see news item), took it's name but added features more familiar to the users of their high-end DM series consoles. Adding 24-bit 96kHz resolution, 100mm faders, ADAT interface as standard and up to 40 inputs on mixdown plus DAW and remote MIDI , it brought top of the range features into range for the rest of us. The V2 software, available as a free download for current 01V96 owners and included in new production models (notated as 01V96V2), the upgrade includes nearly 50 new features, including Studio Manager V2, expanded DAW control, application-specific functions and the capability to run Yamaha's Add-On Effects packages. "In terms of value the Yamaha 01V96 already provides the most powerful digital mixing features for a vast range of markets. With the free Version 2 upgrade, current and future 01V96 customers will be able to enjoy even greater flexibility as they move to the 24/96 mixing standard, better DAW integration, Studio Manager V2 functionality and the access to Add-On Effects," states Peter Peck, Music Production Marketing Manager. Studio Manager V2, included as part of the upgrade, retains the user's ability to manage all console parameters from a computer via a graphic interface while providing improved editing, librarian and remote control functions. All functions are displayed on-screen in logical, easy-to understand pages. Studio Manager V2 also provides a platform of total system recall when multiple, compatible-format products (including the 01V96V2, 02R96V2 and SPX2000) are being used together. The 01V96V2 will be available in September.
