Every year GP - a well established industrial design company makes its infrastructure available to young talents and supports a degree dissertation. Philipp Haselwander, a musician himself, has created FRONT: a really new music instrument — without using classical paradigms. an instrument for new sounds, that gives the musician the possibility to express themselves.
Front is a completely new musical interface comprising a large knob mounted on a sliding mechanism and a plastic bendy modulation panel. The unit transmits MIDI via USB and is designed with performance and software instruments in mind. Although of course all paradigms are there to be abused....
Phillip has clearly given this some thought -
“Music and its styles are strongly connected to the equipment used for production and its interfaces. Software-synthesizers have lifted some restrictions of classic musical instruments. an interface for them has to do same. FRONT is my suggestion for it.”
