Syntaur's new MegaDisk for the Akai MPC samplers takes a different approach from previous sound sets: it packs as much punch as possible onto a single floppy disk. The result is a huge collection of sounds - 31 complete instruments of a wide variety - all of incredibly small file size. This means that the sounds won't tax the memory in the sampler, and they load up in a heartbeat. As always, loading a program file maps sounds to every pad in every bank - there are no 'dead pads' or duplicated banks. But don't such small file sizes mean thinner sounds?
