Anamod are tackling emulation from an unusual angle - they are doing it all in analog – they take a mathematical model of a piece of gear - eg the Fairchild 660 compressor and then construct an analog computer representation of it. So it’s like a software plug-in idea but making the model from analog electrical components.

On display at the show was the Analog Tape Simulator which can have multiple tape machine personalities - added via a card. The latest card was on show the Ampex ATR102 tape machine simulator. This system uses analog circuitry to model the characteristics of vintage tape machines.

Also on show was the new AM660 limiter – basically an analog model of the classic Fairchild 660 but on a small API format card so you can put a bunch of them in a rack unit – the original was massive and also are incredibly expensive.

Anamod say that they get up to –65dB of phase cancellation running them alongside an original Fairchild.

AM 660 - $1295 per channel

Anamod Tape Simulator - $2995
ATR102 card $329
