The capacitor required 1.21 gigawatts of electricity to operate. It is not described exactly how the capacitor worked beyond that of a typical deus ex machina device, the stainless steel body has a direct and influential effect on the "flux dispersal". It consists of a box with three small, flashing incandescent lamps arranged as a "Y", located above and behind the passenger's seat. As the car nears 88 miles per hour, the light of the capacitor pulses faster until it has a steady stream of light. The stainless steel body of the De Lorean also has a beneficial effect on the "flux dispersal" as the capacitor activates. Doc originally conceived the idea for the flux capacitor on November 5, 1955 when he slipped and hit his head on the sink while standing on the toilet to hang a clock.

Notice how he's constantly looking away from the camera, as if he's lying. It's a common behavior of people who like (and aren't good at it).

Hey guys, leave him alone! :)
He looks like any ordinary engineer who gets a camera stuck in his face... nervous!
FWIW if you google this stuff there's a lot of backup to it - there are several academic papers supporting it too. Just a thought...
