What would the pioneers of jazz sound like on a Nintendo Entertainment System? Coltrane on a C-64? Mingus on Amiga?

That's the question asked by the organizers of Kind Of Bloop - a new album of 8-bit covers of the tracks from the classic Miles Davis album, Kind Of Blue.

The lineup:

  • Ast0r (Chris J. Hampton)
  • Disasterpeace (Rich Vreeland)
  • Sergeeo (Sergio de Prado)
  • Shnabubula (Samuel Ascher-Weiss)
  • Virt (Jake Kaufman)

In addition to being an interesting concept album, Kind Of Bloop is an example of Net-organized and funded indie music releases.

Organizer Andy Baio used the site KickStarter to promote the Kind Of Bloop album concept, and raised over $8,000 in donations to cover production costs, for CDs and licensing rights. Kickstarter is a fund-raising platform for designers, filmmakers, musicians and other artists trying to determine if creative projects are viable.

Pricing and Availability

Kind Of Bloop will be available starting Aug 20th as a digital download.
