Korg M01 - M1 On The Nintendo DS

House piano and bamboo trem can be yours 31-Aug-10

Via DETUNEltd

'KORG M01' is a palm-sized Music Workstation for
Nintendo DS! You can make a wide variety of music with 8 tracks sequencer and more than 300 sounds including the legendary Korg's M1 sounds. Anyone can generate musical notes, chords, and drums by Touch control screen without music knowledge.

Amazing what they can do these days, etc etc.

Available soon at $60. Not bad when you consider the original M1 was closer to £1k. But of course, you dont get a keyboard. Nintendo DS Midi interface anyone?

I love the Korg Analog & Digital Legacy VSTi's. I wish they's make a VST Karma instead of DS toys though... perhaps they had such a hit with the Monotron Korg think smaller is better?

Seems like Korg is really pushing to get at users (amateurs?) who prize portability over all. Fits right in with all the "micro" hardware they have been releasing. I guess the DS-10 was a hit for them.

Perhaps after seeing the great success the DS-10 had (relatively speaking) they decided to expand upon that. I like the DS-10 a lot, it was something different, even inspiring.

And yes, its for amateurs. Consider this: how many profesional musicians that can actually afford an m3 are there? now consider: how many music-loving guys are there with already a DSi?? I bet you there are more of the second. It is a relatively unexploited market, with less than 10 products I believe... or at least very few good ones.

just like to point out the the MO1 is not made by KORG. it is made by a japanese company called Detune who also made the DS-10 and DS-10+. KORG are backing the product as it was their original keyboard in the first place.

krazyurbanheadhunter 04-Oct-11 12:45 AM

Will this be released in north america?

Yonoko6 09-Sep-11 11:24 PM

about korg m01 ds: is there any difference if played on the ds/dsi?

because for the korg ds+ there is difference.

thx!

wildman00sax 03-Aug-11 01:02 PM

@gugo80 It's in English, but it's only sold in Japan.

wildman00sax 03-Aug-11 01:02 PM

@FacestabMan I say DS-10+ only because the M01 is Japan only. You would have to import it.

kylehyde28 30-Jul-11 08:21 AM

@oopo1 Just use the "copy" tab on the top-left tab.

Rob8036 07-Apr-11 07:35 PM

@FacestabMan this for sure, mind you I love ds-10 and have multiple copies of it

oopo1 14-Mar-11 04:11 AM

can someone tell me how to copy and paste whole patterns? surely you dont have to write every 16/32/64 steps by hand.

FacestabMan 07-Mar-11 08:12 PM

@Arthur60 Thanks for the info. I will be using M01 then.

Arthur60 05-Mar-11 02:21 PM

@gugo80 I saw it run in English

Arthur60 05-Mar-11 02:20 PM

@FacestabMan Hi,

DS10 is an analog-like synth with VCA, VCF capabilities, you create sounds with it. (2 mono synths + 1 drum, up to 6 simultaneous sounds). Sequencing is based upon patterns you can switch live. DS10+ doubles these figures on DSi and allows multi player mode.

M01 is a digital samples based workstation. You only use already built sounds but you got up to 8 tracks, each one beeing polyphonic.

So it depends if you prefer to create sounds or create multi track songs.

FacestabMan 01-Mar-11 09:18 PM

Would you recommend this or DS-10?

gugo80 23-Feb-11 06:22 PM

is it only in japanese?

Yunneck 20-Feb-11 06:19 AM

@peter47a stretching samples changes its time = lenght, envelope, everything real pro sampling keyboards has different sample per key, or sometimes few samples per key (velocity)

peter47a 19-Feb-11 01:24 PM

@Yunneck even today subtractive sample based synthesis is used in every workstation. I don't get your point.

gamerz1 15-Feb-11 02:50 PM

with korg m01 you can't edit sound as with korg ds10

Yunneck 15-Feb-11 05:35 AM

M1 was always lame. Stretched samples? Its not even synth. LAME! prove me wrong

jcudal32 09-Feb-11 03:52 AM

Cant wait to see Kord3DS. more power for the user and the developers.

BlooMassacre 09-Feb-11 03:38 AM

@GogorisChannel Actually, there are a few carts enhanced for DSi (such as the upcoming Pokemon Black and White) that are region-locked. However, the lock only works on the DSi, so DS lites aren't affected by it.

kylehyde28 08-Feb-11 11:43 PM

@hahftmxpknvuu Korg M01 is NOT region-locked, so you can play this on any DS systems and the new 3DS.

8Cell4Cube 01-Feb-11 11:37 PM

Reminds me ALOT of ocarina of time haha! Ds-10 was a great product, looking foward to giving this a try..

sonicfire1980 29-Jan-11 07:17 PM

when i can plug this into my mixer and sequence it via MIDI or WIFI i will buy a DS + this :D

davedagreat69 26-Jan-11 07:16 PM

@spoddie Yep, a shitty 80's synth which is still in widespread use throught the industry today. I have a shitty Ensoniq SQ80, Korg DW8000 and Casio CZ1 from the 80's, gotta love that 80's shit!

hahftmxpknvuu 17-Jan-11 09:05 PM

@GogorisChannel

If it is DSi enhanced it will only start on a DSi from the same region.

GogorisChannel 17-Jan-11 08:21 PM

@hahftmxpknvuu The DSi is not fully region locked. You can play any cart game you want. DSiWare is the only "region locked" portion.

Dogboy73 08-Jan-11 11:44 PM

@MysticalMuffinDude That sucks. Well, illegal download onto flash card it is then. There's no other way ;-)

kingofkeyboards 08-Jan-11 06:09 PM

@MysticalMuffinDude where have you got that info from?

MysticalMuffinDude 08-Jan-11 03:48 PM

@kingofkeyboards sorry to disapoint, but this programme may not come out in the UK.

MysticalMuffinDude 08-Jan-11 03:48 PM

@Dogboy73 it may not come out in the UK.

ryuku0825 08-Jan-11 04:31 AM

いいねぇーd(^_^o)

Dogboy73 24-Dec-10 04:16 PM

Awesome! Now where the f**k can I get this in the UK?!

spoddie 13-Dec-10 03:26 AM

Make your DS sound like a shitty 80s synth!

hahftmxpknvuu 06-Dec-10 06:14 PM

Fuck you nintendo for making DSi region encoded I want to import this NOW!

kingofkeyboards 05-Dec-10 01:45 PM

haha I LOL'ed at the beginning. I'm definitely getting this when it is released in the United Kingdom!

DragonsTooth 05-Dec-10 04:26 AM

I'm so excited i could crush a grape!!!!

MysticalMuffinDude 04-Dec-10 06:57 PM

こんにちは、本当にこれを得ることに興味しますが、英国にくることを知っているかどうかと思いましてですか?

camelriderofdoom666 28-Nov-10 09:02 AM

おおー、Universeの音が・・・!

mantax55 19-Nov-10 12:12 AM

enpinion 16-Nov-10 12:51 PM

Wow... That is... the KORG M1!

daishihmr5555 24-Oct-10 04:33 PM

超欲しい

eclecticretard 21-Sep-10 04:19 AM

@zanduro same question here Dx

Hackuity 16-Sep-10 05:21 PM

FINALLY something at the level of Beaterator! I'm leaving the PSP to take a DS, and that's another great reason to do it!

themightytree 15-Sep-10 04:48 PM

@zanduro it looks like he's using a regular DS lite (no camera etc) so I'm hoping DS will be good enough (I don't want to buy a DSi...)

YOSU3218 11-Sep-10 01:15 PM

音すごいなぁ・・・ これは買うしかない

zanduro 10-Sep-10 03:10 PM

i am definitely going to buy myself a nintendo ds thanks to this, but... is this only for nintendo dsi or is nintendo ds lite also ok (i know that for ds10, dsi has higher polyphony or power or something)?
