Ableton AMP Effects From Softube

New effect ads drive and warmth to Live      22/09/10

Breaking news from Abletoninc:

 

Ableton and Softube team up to present Amp, an effect that emulates the sound and character of seven classic guitar amplifiers. Amp is free with Ableton Suite 8, and comes bundled with Cabinet, a separate effect offering classic speaker cabinets and optimized microphone configurations.

 

In many ways this has been missing from the core effects Ableton Live has to offer. Whats also nice is that this effect now has some kind of visual difference. To me the simplicity of Live can also be a disadvantage, making it harder to see at a glance what is doing what. This new AMP plugin introduces a graphical element to the interface that helps.

 

Included in Ableton Live Suite

I just upgraded Suite and played around with Amp and Cabinet.

Thus far it's sounding very good. Still not as good as much more expensive plugins, but there is a lot of adjustability and a variety of great sounds. Cabinet also offers some really cool sound design options on it's own.

What's really awesome is Suite 8 owners get it for free. That's why I love Ableton. (Listening Avid? If someone spends lots of money on your software, maybe you can give them some stuff free.)
