A rare chance for a chat with Flood - aka Mark Ellis - a record producer with a stream of seminal albums under his belt - from early days engineering U2, to the classic Depeche Mode "Songs of Faith and Devotion" Flood has consistently delivered.

Fresh off stage from his talk - The Art and Craft of Recording (a sell out) at the Mute Short Circuit event in London's Roundhouse, we talked about a variety of topics.

Great interview Nick. It seems to me that Flood has been successful not just because he has talent, but because he is just a really nice guy. If you are going to be locked up in a studio for weeks or even months, everyone had better be pleasant to work with or it could be a disaster. He just seems like a really nice person.

Glad you enjoyed it and yes, he is indeed a throughly nice bloke. You can understand how he gets the most out of the bands he works with.

I was right at the front for the talk and he's such a nice bloke..great sense of humour and a gentle giant. He's given so much of himself for his passion/craft , which is why he is where he is.

I'd rather say something different: if u have produced Songs Of Faith And Devotion by Depeche Mode - u r a genius. :) :) :) All in all, Violator is good, too.

Watched this and the Gareth Jones interview... the interviewer really goes out of his way to avoid saying "Depeche Mode", doesn't he?
