Novation's Launchpad app has just been released in the App store and its free!

Based on some of the hardware Launchpad's features, it gives you control via pads and virtual faders.

It also comes with a bunch of sounds from Loopmasters to get you going.

8x6 Launchpad grid for triggering up to 8 loops and sounds at a time
8 Volume sliders
FX section for adding simple beat repeating and synced Filter effects
Premium content library from Loopmasters
Global Tempo change
Edit mode for replacing samples
Autosave - never lose your session changes
The Launchpad iPad app is designed to work alongside the Novation Launchkey iPad app. A powerful and unique analogue modelling synthesiser, which uses interactive, hands-on graphics to give you a fast and fun way to add synth lines to your music.
Novation Launchpad is an iPad app and is not compatible with iPhone or iPod Touch.

It's a nice start. But. No way to import your own samples (and remove the factory content) and the lack of MIDI makes one want more than it has to offer. The interface and workflow is nice, so hope to see it develop to something useful!

Yeah, this is actually a really nice app, Ableton Live with Stutter Edit (lite) in one interface. I know this was meant to drive people towards the Novation hardware but if they allowed sample imports I'd easily pay $10 for it.
