MESSE 2014: Waldorf Streichfett Hardware String Synth

Waldorf pull one out of the bag after yesterdays news of the 2-Pole Filter we now hear that there is a new string synthesizer to add to the Rocket sized team. The Waldorf Streichfett is a string syntheiszer which "combines the best of the now extinct speices of String Synthesizers of the 70s and 80s".

With a fully polyphonic engine combined with a solo, monophonic section its ideal for recreating how adult movies sounded thirty years ago - their words not mine. Solo voices are Bass, E-piano, or Clavi.

Waldorf Streichfett also has an effect section with  Ensemble (or lubrication as the fruity press release puts it), Animate (morphing string registrations) and Phaser or Reverb.

The Streichfett has twelve memories and features USB and MIDI connections.

Key Features

  • Fully polyphonic Strings Section with Violin, Viola, Cello, Brass, Organ and Choir presets
  • 2 nd Layer with Violin / Viola Voicing
  • Ensemble Effect for String Section
  • Typical String Envelope Generator with Crescendo and Release
  • Monophonic Solo Section, offering Bass, E-Piano, Clavi, Synth and Pluto sounds
  • Dedicated Tremolo for Solo Section
  • Switchable Envelope generator with variable Sustain setting and Attack / Decay (Release) function
  • Effect Section with Animate, Phaser or Reverb
  • Layer or Split for Solo Section
  • Dedicated balance knob for quick adjustment of layered / split sounds
  • Fully programmable with 3 x 4 memory locations
Available late Spring, priced at around €235.
We will be making an early move towards the Waldorf booth to check it out at next week's Musikmesse

Try Logic Pro's ES E polyphonic ensemble. It's excellent. Strings as lush s my VP330!

Got to say I'd written off ever seeing a new hardware string synth!

I loved the sound of the Rocket and i hope the Streichfett has the same sort of quality - should do. A modern string para/poly synth is something i'd be really interested in. I've heard some good software string synths & have demo's of some but there's nothing like the real thing. Hopefully its a hybrid like the rest of the series. Can't wait for a video demo either...

@E03 - this is the 'real thing' ? My Eminent 310 has a myriad of resistors and transistors in the back of it. Same for my VP330. Does this?

FYI - I equally adore Logic Pro's ES E, G-Force Vintage Strings and XILS stunning V+ VP330 Virtual emulation.

I love string machines and can't wait to hear this - but it's far from 'the real thing' and the software emulations out there are exquisite (and I do use Logic Pro's ES E quite a bit on projects)

This is an exciting addition, but it's far from the real thing.
