A bit of a WOW moment today in space terms, been a while since we've had much action in that area since the closure of the Apollo and Shuttle missions. But the ESA (European Space Agency) has been planning the Rosetta mission for years. Today the Philae space probe intercepts an genuine live comet, yes you read that right - think Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck in Armageddon, except that of course its not manned, nor is it required to save the planet, but you get the idea.

Its planned to touch down at 4pm UK time and , well its jolly exciting.

Sadly I cant embed the live stream (oh Livestream why not?) but you can watch it here:

ESA Rosetta Landing

If you've nothing better to do, why not witness the most historical space event for years?

The comet named 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko by chance, emits some rather musical radio signals -they think this is:

probably the result of neutral particles from the comet being released into space and becoming electrically charged. Although it does also note that the exact "physical mechanism" behind the sound is still unknown. The frequency of the sound is between 40-50 millihertz, which is too low for the human ear to pick up directly, but the recording has been amplified around 10,000 times to make it audible.
