In this video from Patchblocks we get a great demonstration of these tiny little lego-like musical instruments.
These are modular tools that use free software allowing you to program your Patchblock the way you want. This is done on a Max/MSP or PD style visual programming software. You can choose from a variety of low level sound processing elements and combine them to create new processors, sound sources etc...
The editor lets you emulate how the patch will sound and once you're happy with it you can upload it to your Patchblock. This is done by connecting it via USB.
