Bob Moog Foundation Announces Auction

US Rick Wakeman signed photos are up for grabs      17/04/24

The Bob Moog Foundation has announced the auction of sixteen framed, signed, and numbered limited-edition photographs of Rick Wakeman, originally taken by photographer Marek Hofman in Poland in 2017 at the Rock Legends Festival.

The auction is currently running and ends on April 22, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (EDT). The auction is open internationally and can be accessed on eBay. Auction winners will pay for shipping. 

Here's what the Foundation has to say about the auction...

The stunning black-and-white photographs show Wakeman on stage at Charlotta Valley with his keyboard rig at a soundcheck prior to his performance. For any fans of Wakeman, Yes, or music history, these photographs offer a unique and intimate glimpse of the progressive rock icon at a candid moment fans do not often get to witness.

Two of the photographs measure 24" x 16", one measures 24" x 14", and the other measures 24" x 12". The series has four different images, and they are numbered either 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, or 4/5.
    
The four images are named after different Wakeman album releases. "Prelude" features Wakeman looking to his left as he stands in front of his expansive keyboard rig. "Rhapsody" shows the musician playing his Minimoog with his right hand as he stares intently at the instrument. "Journey" takes a closer inspection at Wakeman as he gazes at the Minimoog he is playing. Lastly, "Lost in Time" showcases the prog-rock icon from a distance, staring at his keyboard rig and the empty seats that will soon be full of fans.

"It is an honor for the Bob Moog Foundation to share these limited-edition, signed photos of a musician as legendary as Rick Wakeman, and taken by a photographer as talented as Marek Hofman," notes Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation. "Each beautiful photo captures Rick's musical spirit differently. We are deeply grateful to Rick and Marek for making this opportunity possible for our community of supporters."

Rick Wakeman is one of the most influential keyboardists of the 20th century thanks to a career that spans London session work in the late 1960s accompanying David Bowie, Elton John, Black Sabbath, and many other greats, to becoming a defining voice in the progressive rock genre as a keyboardist for Yes. During his time with Yes, Wakeman helped shape their hit album Fragile and the successful follow-up Close to the Edge. Wakeman would go on to record acclaimed solo material, compose film scores and musicals, and perform classical, religious, and progressive-rock-inspired music.

Marek Hofman is a Polish teacher and photographer whose work focuses primarily on portraits of musicians and concerts. Hofman has photographed such legends as Jack Bruce, Bob Dylan, Deep Purple, Bryan Ferry, John Fogerty, Alan Parsons, Robert Plant, and Patti Smith. Many of Hofman's photographs have appeared in Polish and international music magazines, including Guitar and Bass, Billboard, and Rolling Stone.

Funds raised from the auction will be used to expand the Bob Moog Foundation's hallmark education project, Dr. Bob's SoundSchool, which has inspired over 30,000 elementary school students through the science of sound. The auction will also help support the Bob Moog Foundation Archives and the Moogseum, an immersive, experiential facility located in Asheville, North Carolina, which brings Bob Moog's pioneering legacy and the science of sound and synthesis alive for people of all ages. The Moogseum opened in 2019 and has since welcomed over 40,000 visitors from all over the world.
