Music producer Tobias Lindell was showing his range of 500-series units, based both upon some classic EQ and compression unit designs, and his extensive studio experience.
Talking to him about the designs, the words 'Pultec' and '1176' crop up as touchstones of the sound & design of the modules, but the reason Tobias started hardware manufacture was apparently that these 'classic' designs lacked certain modern production features - such as HighPass Sidechain filtering and Parallel Compression - which although can be implemented in a studio situation using console and routing techniques, make extremely useful additions to stand-alone units; especially more portable varieties such as 500 series modules.
The modules look great, sounded very impressive on the stand, but perhaps the most amazing aspect is the price - at just $299 each, they represent a pretty jaw-dropping deal, it would seem.
I'm sure Tobias is on a winner here!
The range currently comprises:-
6X-500 - single channel transformer-coupled Mic Preamp and 2-band Passive 'Pultec-style' EQ
7X-500 - single channel output compressor/limiter. FET design with new features such as HiPass Sidechain Filter and Mix knob between wet & dry signal [parallel compression]
PEX-500 - single channel transformer-coupled Passive 'Pultec-style' EQ
