MusikMesse is always a real eye-opener - the sheer scale of it is quite daunting. There are halls filled with manufacturers of every music-related item imaginable, from Alpen horns to Xylophones and beyond. It would take a month at least to see it all, and sadly with our busy schedule, we rarely get much time to wander into the more 'esoteric' areas looking for interesting items. However, whilst taking a breather between halls, our Press badges were spotted by the rather lovely Sofie Quidenus, who insisted we should come and see a 'revolutionary new product' which would be of interest to all musicians using sheet music. It was an an offer we couldn't refuse (er.. quite literally). Turns out it is pretty good, too - a footswitch triggers a mechanism which physically turns the page of your sheet music. It's been gathering praise from those who have seen it so far, including various luminaries from the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and more, so we grabbed our cameras and shot a quick video of the device in action, introduced by Sofie, the MD of Quidenus GmbH. The inventor, Alfred Jakes was also on hand to explain its operation.
