Presonus announced a few new pieces of hardware at the show, the news FireStudio being one to catch the eye for starters. Taking over from the Firepod the Firestudio is based on the new Dice II chipset, this firewire interface has got plenty of IO capabilities and tons of routing options. You also get BNC wordclock and 96kHz SMUX ADAT capability.
This combined with it’s 8 mic/line inputs it should give you plenty of what you need in an interface. The new control panel software gives you up to 9 individual mixes routable to any of the available outputs. Because of the new chipset, the routing options are extremely flexible. The unit also remembers it’s last mix setup after power-up. There’s no spec sheet to crib from as yet, but the unit should be shipping within the next 60 days.
One more thing of note is that you also get a remote monitoring control box that connects to the unit over cat5 cable for really extended cable runs. This gives you full control over the monitoring with dim, mono, source select for both in regular stereo and 5.1 surround, should you need it. Oh yeah and talkback too - nice.
Another addition to the Presonus family is the Faderport. This is a USB interface featuring a single full size motorized fader, continuous knob controller, transport control with solo, record enable and automation arming buttons. They say it is designed to be a companion for the mouse and it looks very promising for a compact DAW control and best of all it’s going to cost around $179 USD
