The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance is hosting the second of its biennial music education research conferences this summer, on 23rd and 24th July. The event, featuring academics, musicians and students from around the world, will explore sociological and philosophical aspects of education in popular and contemporary music. As well as research and debate activities (including presentations by renowned keynote speakers Ruth Wright, University of Western Ontario and Terry L.Applebaum, University of the Arts, Philadelphia), the conference will maintain a strong focus on issues concerning graduate employment.
Other topics being discussed include pedagogy, entrepreneurialism, sociology and philosophy of education in popular music and beyond. There will be performances throughout the event, featuring student and faculty musicians from the Institute and the profession. There will also be a conference dinner in Camden, the beating heart of London's hip, contemporary music scene, and opportunities to catch local, national and international acts creating live music in one of the world's major music capitals.
The Institute invites academics, teachers, students, music industry and business colleagues to attend what they say will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the UK's music education research calendar this year. All are welcome to come and contribute to the debate and to take part in the live Twitter event running throughout the conference.
This event is organised by the Institute's Research Committee, and will be chaired by Dr Gareth Dylan Smith. Pricing and Availability:
