Mojave Audio, a company founded by David Royer (known for his work with ribbon microphones) have announced that the company’s MA-200 tube condenser microphone is being broadly released.
Since its introduction in May 2004, the microphone has been available in very limited quantities. Effective immediately, the microphone will enter general distribution and will be available through many more fine pro audio dealerships.
Evolving from over 20 years of custom microphone design, Mojave tell us that the MA-200 provides warm, full-bodied reproductions of vocals and instruments without the shrillness and high frequency artifacts so often encountered with modern condenser microphones. Using hand-selected 3-micron capsules, Jensen audio transformers, and military grade JAN 5840 vacuum tubes, the MA-200 was designed with an eye on the performance characteristics of some of the best-loved classic microphones.
The Mojave Audio MA-200 utilizes a 1-inch (diameter) gold sputtered capsule used in conjunction with a specially designed Jenson audio transformer and a military grade JAN 5840 vacuum tube. With its cardioid polar pattern, Mojave say that the MA-200 makes an outstanding choice for vocals, voice over, piano, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, orchestra, spot miking, and related applications. Further, the MA-200 employs balanced transformer output and ships with a rugged carrying case, power supply, shock mount, and cables.
