Sontronics are quite a new mic company - I say new, but it's actually been five years since they launched the company, but their retro designs and kudos from the industry makes them appear somewhat longer in the tooth. With unusual designs in the condenser, ribbon and dynamic mic ranges, they have also added a high grade dual mic amp to the mix. All these products take full advantage of the lower cost of manufacturing in China, but still manage to achieve high performance. We caught up with designer Trevor Coley, and had a chat about the what, why and how of design and manufacture.
