Is This The World's Most Powerful Keyboard Production Station?

Music Computing releases StudioBLADE Gen2 07-Jun-11

Music Computing, the makers of the StudioBLADE line of all-in-one music keyboard production stations announced today the Gen2 versions, which they descibe as the world's most powerful keyboard production station and a huge leap in performance and value. Here's the rest of what they have to say...

StudioBLADEs (Gen2) are all-in-one music production stations complete with piano keys, drum trigger pads, knobs, sliders, thousands of sound presets and software for live and studio use. They allow users to compose, record, mix, and master songs that are ready for radio or direct Internet distribution.

StudioBLADEs (Gen2) are powered by high-performance computer cores utilizing Intel® Xeon® mission-critical server platform processors that are perfect for today's demanding musicians and the virtual instruments and software application they use. Options include dual 6-core processors totaling 12-cores, up to 192GB of RAM, and up to 6TB of hard drive storage. The Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) operating system is preconfigured for music production and can run virtually any software application or plug-in. Capable of running over 2,000 plug-ins at once, sequencing thousands of tracks simultaneously, and storing millions of sound presets, the StudioBLADE (Gen2) is by far the highest performance keyboard available today.

The first truly scalable music production tool, StudioBLADE provides the user with what they need, when they need it. This means the user can start with the base configuration with a single processor, one memory module and one hard drive, and add more as they need it. The company calls this the Goldilocks Principle and is designed to allow the keyboard to grow with the user.

"The goal was to produce products that would endure the test of time, or even better yet, the increasing shorter product cycles from the computer parts manufactures." Said Victor Wong, CEO, Music Computing. "By using server components, which are supported in terms of years or decades instead of months, the StudioBLADE represents a sound investment that will save its users time and money far into the future"

StudioBLADEs (Gen2) are available in 61-key and an 88-key versions, perfect for live or studio use. The keys are velocity-sensitive, semi-weighted action, and are professional in feel and ultra-roadworthy. Pitch and Mod wheels as well as octave up and down buttons with indicators are also included.

All that power and it only comes with an Audio Interface that supports 96KHz? What a waste.

nah...I still want my Korg Kronos instead. This just smells like another Open Labs rehash. In a couple of years the company folds and what you do with a white elephant with no support. Thanks, but no thanks.

Worked out real well for Open Labs ...oh wate . What ? to soon ?

Damn, I just need a workstation that can hold 2 milions presets/2 thousand tracks and I'm all set for producing. This is the pinacle of how far we steird away on what we really need to make music.

Open Labs rehash with the same ridiculous price tag. Now I understand that its running server tech but seriously at close to 4 grand its not worth it. I suggest go buy a mac mini server, max out the ram and hardrive, get a small lcd screen stick it in a satchel, throw a mini controller in front of it, your good to go for 70% of what you need at 1/3 the price.

Koshdukai    Said...

nah... get rid of the buttons and faders, keep the knobs and maybe 16 vel/aft pads and slap a big multi-touch surface on that empty space above the keyb and then I may be interested.

That tiny touch screen does nothing when you need to interact with stardard apps for a long period of time.

Touch needs big surfaces so we don't have to try and target that tiny little miniature pin sized button or label or wtv.

Faders and buttons can "easily" be done on a big touch surface (big as in as big as the actual faders and buttons would be, but on a screen)

Endless rotary Knobs can be kept as physical, IMHO, since those aren't as easily mimicked through touch as buttons and faders.

"Run any plug-in", huh? I'd like to run Logic's Sculpture on it, but I don't think that's gonna happen.

I agree that this looks like an Open Labs rehash. If I was in the market for a hardware synth/workstation, I too would go for a Kronos.

curious    Said...

so whats the deal ? has Victor Wong left/kicked out open labs or has his previus company gone under ?

08-Jun-11 04:24 PM

MEASCENTERTAINMENT    Said...

Rehash of Open Labs? Victor Wong of Music Computing left Open Labs (the competitor that HE CREATED MIKO AND NEKO FOR) to start his own company. So if the StudioBlade seems as if it is the off spring of the Miko and Neko then it makes perfect sense seeing that they all have the same creator.

While talent is key, equipment is very important. Timbaland did not produce Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado's music on a $100 Walmart Casio Keyboard. He used Victor Wongs products. Eminems producer Denaun (Kon Artist) Porter uses Victo Wongs products and guess what, ME GENERATION 2 STUDIO BLADE IS ON IT'S WAY! I am excited!

I'll let you nay sayers clean the dust off my hit record plaques and trophies in the near future if you'd like!

Sammy    Said...

Yeah -- really -- 12 XEON processors?! Okay. Sure thing. Why don't I just go to NewEgg and buy all of innards for a fraction of the price, and outfit my (much more appropriate) i7 with a couple of SSDs? I'll get maybe a few HUNDRED sequencer tracks, and the ability to maybe ONLY run a few hundred plug ins at once.

Sheesh! How many more tracks do we NEED? Jan Hammer used to create an entire season of Miani Vice with what -- 16 tracks? Kids these days have no idea how to make good music anymore...

PF    Said...

He was kicked out of Open Labs. They are still in business.

K1    Said...

But it's UGLY!!!

Vic Wong is the shit I must say. The over all power of Music Computing products punches Open Labs in the face. But the look and style of OL bitch slaps every Blade product out. Being beat up is one thing but getting bitch slapped is totally embarrassing!

The base models are less than any other production center but only have half the power and once you've upgraded you've lost your arm and leg...

i like it

musiccomputing 15-Dec-11 04:43 PM

- There are lot's of plug-ins (sound libraries and effects) that require lot's of processing power. In some situations, the user will want to run multiple instances of them. Since some of the sounds are gigbytes in size, the more RAM the better. One example is for film and TV composers. The may need to write music for an orchestra. Also, we have lots of people using our gear to do full HD video production, which requires a lot of RAM.

zinc4life 15-Dec-11 03:24 PM

why on earth would you need so much RAM?

musiccomputing 15-Dec-11 06:33 AM

- With the appropriate video card...YES!

musiccomputing 15-Dec-11 06:33 AM

- Yes, you can run any DAW or software made for Windows 7. If you want to use Mac OS X, you should check out the ControlBLADE and DawBLADE.

YvesZairre 12-Dec-11 02:55 PM

Can I use fl studio as my main DAW please?

alexmatrix1995 12-Dec-11 11:57 AM

Nice...

musiccomputing 29-Nov-11 01:58 AM

- You can configure and get prices from our website: musiccomputingDOTcom. The 61 key and 88 key have the same options and software.

TalibanBeats 28-Nov-11 07:43 PM

ChoysemusicGroup 17-Nov-11 08:16 AM

Let's do an endorsement deal, I'll move some of these units for you....? Holla at me :)

musiccomputing 01-Nov-11 06:21 PM

- There are 12 RAM slots that can accept up to 16GB sticks each for a total of 192GB.

mr4y 01-Nov-11 08:00 AM

How on Earth you can put 192 Gb of RAM on this?

musiccomputing 13-Oct-11 04:10 AM

- No problem...glad to do it!

vStylerJohnG 13-Oct-11 03:12 AM

musiccomputing 12-Oct-11 10:11 PM

- Thanks for the comment. YES! The StudioBLADE or the ControlBLADE are great gifts for Xmas! BTW - that screen is 10.1", which is bigger than virtually all screen on keyboard workstations and the same size as an iPad....but you can also run 2 more external monitors at the same time...so lot's of working room...

vStylerJohnG 12-Oct-11 06:32 PM

The promo forgot.. LITTLE TINY SCREEN.

Otherwise, pretty nice, I'd take one for Xmas .. fer sure :o)

I already did, trust! I try to stay up on gear worth getting. Please believe Music computing is on my Amazon wishlist. Thanks for the info.

musiccomputing 05-Aug-11 01:14 AM

- check out the new ControlBLADES on our site. They start at just $1,599 and can be outfitted with up to an i7 SandyBridge processor. 61 and 25 keys...

jgooch99 04-Aug-11 11:49 PM

Those with Mac Pro Desktop's might see this as Killer: Macs are great, but if you buy the right configuration of this model I don't see the need for a mac if music production is your focal point. The majority of plugins are made on PC then adapted for Macs under the AU format. If Open labs doesn't allow this as an option in their models soon and keep the "Price Low", it just might hurt their business.

musiccomputing 23-Jul-11 07:44 AM

- Yes, please check our site

musiccomputing 18-Jun-11 12:22 AM

- We created the video "StudioBLADE Sound ver2" which showcases some of the third-party sounds you can use.

SilverfangX777 17-Jun-11 07:50 PM

how about showing off some more"out of the box sounds". I've seen some people complain about that, and turn away from the product. Just because they didn't like the sounds the SB came with.

coldmachine 14-Jun-11 08:28 PM

Looking forward to it. When can we expect new videos?

dexda26 14-Jun-11 07:45 AM

any financing options yet????

musiccomputing 10-Jun-11 04:11 PM

@ItsKidAmazing - If you want to use a Mac, check out the iKeyDOCK on our site...

HOWKAM143 09-Jun-11 06:56 AM

This is Crazy...........i thought i was sold now i am bewildered....

musiccomputing 07-Jun-11 11:38 PM

- LMAO!!! That's a great one!!!

coldmachine 07-Jun-11 11:37 PM

The problem with the Tianhe-1A is that it is only available in a 37 note configuration. On the other hand, the Cray KX6 is available in 61 note synth action and 88 note weighted versions. :-)

illanoiz1 07-Jun-11 11:21 PM

Yo Victor you've done it again!! You always make everything interesting and fun.....OL became boring without you and Ed. I'm going to have to get one of these

musiccomputing 07-Jun-11 10:42 PM

- P.S. Currently the most powerful supercomputer on the planet is the Tianhe-1A, which utilizes the same Xeon series processors as the StudioBLADE (Gen2).

AnalogX1 07-Jun-11 09:55 PM

I just came from the website and read the specs. Talk about the power of the gods.....

musiccomputing 07-Jun-11 09:08 PM

- No problem, that will be the next video we put up...

coldmachine 07-Jun-11 08:41 PM

Some VSTi load "torture test" examples would be very informative.

musiccomputing 07-Jun-11 07:00 PM

- They are all from the new Xeon 5600 series that just came out last month.

coldmachine 07-Jun-11 06:15 PM

What are the model numbers of the 3 processors in the G2 SB. Thanks.

I had intended to order an iKeyDock rather than an SB, this has made me do a total 180 on that.

HitoneProductions 07-Jun-11 04:14 PM

Whoa ! Goodness gracious ! How about that for a work flow. I'm at lost for words. WHEW !

HitoneProductions 07-Jun-11 02:03 PM

Whoa !!!!!!!!! Goodness gracious , great balls of fire ! All I can do is pick my chin up from off the floor. That's a heck of a work flow.

SilverfangX777 07-Jun-11 10:58 AM

StudioBLADE>everything else

musiccomputing 07-Jun-11 08:38 AM

Everyone - We've got lots more videos coming very soon. If you want to see something specific, please post here and we will try to upload it...

MakeItFunkyProds 07-Jun-11 06:30 AM
