MESSE13: Rode iXY Mic

Microphone for iOS turns your iPhone, iPad and iPod into a professional mic      14/04/13

   QuickTime (MP4)  | iOS MP4
5:15 mins

We met up with the guys at Rode to show us their new XY pair for iOS devices. Heres what they have to say about it.

With up to 24-bit/96k* recording and on-board high-fidelity A/D conversion, your iXY recordings are rich, smooth and accurate.

At the heart of the iXY is a matched pair of ½" cardioid condenser capsules, fixed in a perfect 90 degree 'near-coincident' alignment. This results in immersive and true-to-life stereo recordings, captured in incredibly high detail.

The iXY is supplied with a foam windshield for outdoor recording as well as a reinforced protective zip case to ensure your iXY is available whenever you need it.

To get the full 24-bit/96k quality you need to use the RØDE Rec or RØDE Rec LE app.

They are releasing this now, in 2013, and it's not even compatible with the iPhone 5?? No lightning port, seriously? Looks great, I would've bought one if it weren't already obsolete.

We are currently developing a Lightning connector version, but unfortunately there is no ETA at this stage. The current 30 pin iXY will work on newer iOS devices using the official Apple Lightning adapter.

I'll hang on to my 4S, tried one of these last week, I've got a 5 but I'll buy the iXY to use until the iXY thunderbolt comes out, simply because this is just awesome, it's solid precision and you can tell this has been in development for years, it's metal and its the future. Adios SHURE and Sennheiser you got your starts designing communication gear for wars 60 years ago, Rode doesn't design on the back of warmongering, this will be the device that defines their new path, groundbreaking, coincidently there are more 30 pin iOs devices out there than lightning so now stil a great buy.

You are soooooo adrabole, Janie! Your playful nuances and mannerisms reach out through the video, so it feels like you're sitting right across from me and wow, your hair looks a bit like mine in texture and color (I colored my lighter blonde hair dark blonde recently and may even go brunette yikes, my natural hair color I last showed back in 8th grade). Well, I think your new do is much a do about nothin', and although it looks like our girl's gonna have sum splainin to do I'm sure she'll creatively manage the hairy situation with her usually smooth style. Luv ya, babes xxoo xxoo
