Mitosynth is a new hybrid additive/wavetable synth for iOS from Wooji Juice, creators of Sylo Synth and Grain Science. Here's what they have to say about it...

Start with additive synthesis, wavetables, or mix them up. Add rich modulation, effects and filters, controlled by powerful LFOs and beyond. Make vibrant leads, vast soundscapes, compelling basses, warm bath or deep sea pads, and so much more.

The sound is complex, but the controls are not. Synth engine and UI both offer clarity and power. And of course Mitosynth supports the things you'd expect: Audiobus, Core MIDI, Virtual MIDI, background audio, AudioCopy, AudioShare, Dropbox, performance recording, and it's Universal -- one app that will run on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

Highlights:

  • Almost any dial in the system can be controlled by MIDI CC, velocity, XY pad, or sophisticated LFO, noise and envelope generators.
  • The noise generator alone probably deserves a special mention, allowing for both dramatic and subtle effects from light audio grunge to tape wobble to trickling liquids.
  • Feed your audio with wavetables, samples, additive synthesis and prefilter.
  • Voice modulation: AM, PWM, Phase Mangulation, and Supercharger unison mode.
  • A dozen effects units, including filters, crushers, warm fuzz, phaser, tube resonance and chorus. Install up to four in any order -- plus a high-quality reverb to round things off.
  • Performance mode featuring XY Pads and fast access to your favourite patches.

Also featuring:

  • Customisable keyboard: key size, scale (blues, pentatonic etc), and either regular piano keys or expressive "ribbon" controllers supporting individual velocity control.
  • Polyphonic pitch glide, as well as standard hardware keyboard-style mono glide, allows you to glide entire chords, or individual notes within chords.
  • Normal, Toggle or Latch sustain modes. Supports MIDI sustain pedal.
  • Single-shot or looped audio sources, and non-destructive loop softening to make click-free loops out of found audio.
  • Install the same effect multiple times with different settings if you want.
  • Built-in performance recording.

Making life easier:

  • Copy and paste control values from dial to dial -- including complex automation.
  • Quickly search your patch and audio libraries for a word or phrase, or tag them for quick access.
  • Easy tap-and-twist MIDI CC learning, and tap-to-tune imported audio.
  • Comprehensive manual built in to the app, or available for download, for printing or reading on another device.
  • On iPad, supports landscape or portrait for all modes and features. On iPhone, hold in landscape for full-size keyboard and performance controls, hold in portrait for patch editing, library and settings.

Fitting in with others:

  • Background audio to play alongside other apps.
  • Compatible with Audiobus: stream your Mitosynth audio to other apps.
  • Use AudioCopy, AudioShare, Dropbox or iTunes File Sharing to share your recorded performances, and get sampled audio in and out of the app.
  • Core MIDI and Virtual MIDI for controlling Mitosynth from hardware or other apps. You can also link velocity and MIDI CC to individual synth controls.
  • Easily share your patches with friends. Shared patch files automatically include any additional audio they require.
