Matthew Shaw is a freelance sound designer and graphic artist, who also runs Polyphasic Recordings, a Canada / UK-base experimental electronic record label. For his flexible modular system Matthew went over to the west coast for inspiration.
"I wanted to see if it was possible to put a small portable system together based on West Coast synthesis techniques. Influenced in part by artists such as Douglas Leedy, Michael Czajkowski and Morton Subotnick, who pioneered The use of auto compositional techniques in the modular realm. The systems primary sound source centres around the Verbos Dual Complex Oscillator and relies heavily on the use of cycling envelopes to produce randomly generated sound events. This technique can be used to create music in its own right, or as a great way to create sound material for sampling and to cut up and further process."
